Use

To use a cloaking device you need to have the device active, and then tap crouch to activate it. It will remain active, consuming fuel the whole time until you tap crouch again or until you take damage.

Veteran notes

If you wish to change your equipment on your stealth 'Mech, they will not go invisible when you activate your Cloaking Device. to enable the use of other equipment with a cloaking device, open an attachment on a cloaking 'Mech. You will find a stealth control script inside the part, Called "Cloak listen" copy it and place it into the new attachment that needs to go invisible. This will allow said equipment to engage with the 'Mech during cloak.

Unlike many games with cloaking, attacking does not force de-cloaking. however receiving damage Will remove your invisibility, Non damaging hits like LRM lock-on and bio spray area of effect will not disengage cloak

Always test run your stealth 'Mech and new equipment by going invisible in third person.

  • additionally, the more prim's that need to turn invisible the less likely the cloak will cover the whole item. as current there is a 15% failure rate for prim objects to change to 100% transparency since sever side rendering of avatars and attachments have become standard.
  • avoid areas of heavy alpha layers as the invisible prim's will compete and cast an outline of your location.
  • Remember, you will still show on the mini-map and at close ranges people will be able to get your rough location via the hovering name tag. This can be avoided by enabling chat circle rings on your mini map, keep possible enemy units outside of the normal talk range of 23 meters. from your avatar.

Cloaking will not save you, some Pilots may engage a "see invisible prims" mode (Ctrl+Alt+T) wich will render the cloak system moot. highlighting your mech in red to show when cloaked, this is not illegal as it is a utility of the basic viewer much like the quick jump/prim jumping trick. and can be considered "thermal/IR vision" in a technical view.
