The Diomedes is a seeking missile that auto-acquires its target.

History

Use

To use the Diomedes, arm and fire. They will travel a set distance and then arm, they scatter out and then seek a target. They require line of sight to acquire a target. Once they find one they'll fly towards it and try to connect.

Other Notes

These missiles are designed for speed over maneuverability so they can run down airborne targets and clobber them. If they miss something in the air they'll swing around and keep trying until they hit. They tend to eventually get their target if its in the air.

Against a ground target it's a different story. They'll make a pass at the target and if they miss, they tend to hit the ground and explode, if the target was close enough the splash will. Otherwise it's a missed shot. These missiles are far better against things in the air.

If you become targeted by these you have a few options. First, you can try to outrun them, at 30 meters a second, they are very hard to outrun though. Second, you can try gunning them down, any MCM damage works, the first explosion tends to make any neighboring missiles explode, if you're lucky you can take out an entire set with a domino effect of explosions. Thirdly, you can get near something solid and keep moving. If you are near something solid the missiles might miss you and impact that. If you are out in the open, such as in the middle of the air though, the missiles WILL eventually catch you.
