The Barbarian Battleaxe is the standard melee option which comes stock with the Barbarian. It is a very straight-forward melee weapon, hitting any targets in a 45 degree arc in front of the Barbarian. It is comparable in function to the similar melee axe of the Legionnaire, however while it deals slightly less damage, it's quicker attack speed allows it to strike faster. | |||
While on it's own the Battleaxe won't be able to compete with dedicated melee builds, the ability to pair it with other melee weapons, or other short-range weapons such as the Dual Mortars or LBXs makes it a viable option for dealing with melee opponents. The main limiting factor for the weapon is that it uses the same mounting point as the Barbarian's other primary weapon, the Howitzer, preventing both from being used together. This limits the Barbarian's stock weapon choices to focusing on either long-ranged combat, or close-ranged combat. |
